Finally my kids activity pack has been printed, it took a long while to get there. I spent weeks tweeking all the pages after having proof reads from tutors as well a myself. The first time I saw a coloured printed copy was the printers first run (there were a few things that hadn't seemed to have printed right that needed fixing) and it jumped out with vibrant colour. I was really pleased with the final pack, it flowed well, it was bright and eye catching, I just had to wait for the biggest verdict of all which was to find out what the children thought of it.
With the pack out of the way and getting printed, I had to prepare the next stage which was the activities the children would do on their visit to the show. My original ideas were:-
- Headbands
- Finger puppets
- and bookmarks
Discussing the activities with my tutor, she disclosed that last year hand printing had been a huge success and that this year she could get some large canvas's made as well as some small ones. I then had to come up with an idea how I could in corperate hand prints into a fruit and veg theme, in the end I decided a scene with a tree that the children could fill in with hand and finger prints, as well as putting fruit on the tree and vegetables growing on the ground. With the list of schools attending and the ages of the children we divided up the canvas's accordingly and with the help of my friend Robyn we drew a simple outline of a tree to use as a starting point. With the canvas's sorted I went through the kids activity box from last year and took note of how much paint was left, if there wasn't enough i would have had to go to the Early Learning Centre to buy more NON-TOXIC paint, luckily there seemed to be enough. Now organising the headbands was a lot harder, firstly I had to go with Babs to buy some big A1 sheets of coloured paper from the shop at college and cut it into strips about 6cm wide. That was the easiest part. The part was printing off sheets and sheets of the different fruit and vegetables onto coloured paper, which I then spent the weekend cutting out ready, this would have been a lot harder had it not been for Steph Rowden who helped with the printing and the cutting, as well as Robyn Hills and Emily Stephens. The very last activity I had to organise was the colouring competition.
